A Japanese coastal town is gripped by a terrifying curse. Shuichi Saito discovers their town is haunted not by a person but by a pattern--uzumaki, the spiral, a hypnotic shape hidden in the world. Spirals appear everywhere: in seashells, whirlpools, markings on bodies, obsessive behaviors, even the sound in the inner ear. As the curse spreads, the townspeople are drawn into madness, trapped in a spiral from which there is no escape.
