EC BOOK CLUB - MONICA HC BY DANIEL CLOWES!

Posted by NEIL JOHNSON on

Sunday, December 3rd from 4:30 to 5:30pm

The Emerald City Book Club meets the FIRST SUNDAY of the month from 4:30 to 5:30 pm in our Events Room, to chat about the featured book. We sometimes begin the meetings with a "Comics 101" introduction giving some historical, artistic, or social background on the book, and then we dive right into discussion!

The featured book for the next meeting will be announced at the end of the current ECBC meeting. That book is 20% OFF for the month leading up to its ECBC meeting! (The discount will be calculated at the register, and does not combine with any other discounts or programs).

The featured book for our December meeting released on October 4th, so we are immediately making it 20% OFF so nobody pays full price before we would normally announce it at the November meeting!

You can purchase the discounted book in-store or online:

This month's featured book is...

MONICA HC BY DANIEL CLOWES
FANTAGRAPHICS BOOKS
(W/A/CA) Daniel Clowes
This long-awaited new graphic novel from Daniel Clowes (Ghost World and Patience) is a genre-bending thriller from one of the most assured storytellers of all time. Monica is a series of interconnected narratives that collectively tell the life story - actually, stories - of its title character. Rich with visual detail, an impeccable ear for language and dialogue, and thrilling twists, Monica is a multilayered work that alludes to many of the genres that have defined the medium - war, romance, horror, crime, the supernatural, etc. - but in a mysterious, uncategorizable, and quintessentially Clowesian way that rewards multiple readings.
Daniel Clowes is a Harvey, Eisner, Ignatz, and PEN America Literary Award Winner whose comics and graphicnovels have been translated into over 20 languages worldwide. He is also an Academy Award nominated screenwriter (for Ghost World), and retrospectives of his work have appeared at the Museum of Contemporary Art in Chicago, the Oakland Museum, and the Wexner Center in Columbus, OH. He lives in Oakland, California, with his wife and son.
